In an effort to beat food waste supermarkets have recently started selling ‘wonky’ veg . This is great news for anybody who buys a lot of vegetables.
Today we look at what is available, what you get and how much you pay…
Morrisons:
Price:£3.50
Approx Weight: 4.2kg
Available: Online and in store.

“Your Wonky Veg Selection will include the following: Carrots, Onions (Red or Brown) & Potatoes
It will also include a minimum of three products from the following seasonal produce such as: Cabbage, Cauliflower, Swede, Leeks & Courgettes.”-Morrisons
Asda:
Price: £3.50
Approx Weight: 5kg
Available: Instore.

“The vegetables – currently carrots, potatoes, peppers, cucumber, cabbage, leeks, parsnips and onions – have been selected from farmers’ crops because they are misshapen, have growth cracks or are smaller or larger than average. The produce is washed but the discount reflects the fact that customers may need to spend extra time peeling it or they might not be able to use the whole vegetable.” – Asda

Lidl:

“New ‘Too Good to Waste’ boxes will contain approximately 5kg of fruit and veg for just £1.50 The boxes will include fruit and veg items that are no longer considered at their perfect best, but are still perfectly good to eat.” -Lidl
